{DIY} Spring Wreath

I love having a cute wreath on the front door and I knew I needed to make one for Easter. If you read yesterday's post about the napking rings, you know my goal is to only use what I already have for all my Easter & spring decorations. So I whipped up this wreath doing just that!

This was super easy to make and I only used a handful of supplies:
-wreath
-burlap or fabric to cover wreath
-yarn
-felt
-buttons

I actually had this wreath wrapped with burlap on hand. You could use fabric instead of the burlap. It was left over from a Valentine's Day craft FAIL, but like a good crafter I hung on to it knowing it would have it's day eventually! All I did was cut the burlap into wide strips, wrap it around the foam wreath & hot glued the ends.

I have this really fun multi-colored yarn that I just love...it's so cheerful so I had to use it! I'll be honest...my original intention was to COMPLETELY COVER the wreath in this yarn. But you know what? That takes a REALLY LONG time...and I have no patience for those kinds of crafts. So I went with a more "whimsical" look...and I ended up really liking how the burlap shows through.

I made some very simple flowers out of felt, using a flower template that I printed out. I cut the flowers out with the inside flower being smaller than the previous to achieve a layered look. I hot glued them on and then used some colorful buttons in the center (as I've mentioned many times...I love buttons)!!

I'll be using this wreath for Easter, but it's perfect to keep up all spring!

Happy Spring!

{DIY} Burlap Wreath Two Ways

So with less than 2 weeks until Thanksgiving, I finally got around to taking down my Halloween wreath! And if you are judging me for that, I might as well tell you that the rest of my Halloween decorations are still cluttering up my hallway (YIKES)! I realized I needed something Thanksgiving-y on my door, so I decided to whip up a quick wreath.
This was SUPER easy...really! I put it together in less than 15 minutes.

I re-used the straw wreath I had previously used for my Halloween wreath. See...I knew I kept it up for a reason!

I bought a few yards of burlap last week with the intention of using it for most, if not all, of my holiday decorations. I cut some of the burlap into strips and then wrapped the strips around the wreath securing with some hot glue.

I attached a yellow flower I found at the craft store for a little color. I also wanted to include a pop of turquoise since I am using that in some other decorations. So I made a very, and I mean VERY, simple little ribbon decoration.

All I did was fold the ribbon accordion-style and staple the ends. There's probably a nicer craftier way to do this, but this worked for me. I made two and hot glued them on either side of the flower.

See...I told you that was super easy! Door wreath...DONE!

It was so easy in fact, that I decided to whip up another one for inside the house. This time I re-used a painted wreath I had on hand. I sooooo believe in recycling my crafts! I cut some more burlap strips (I was on a roll) and wrapped it around the wreath. But this time I used less so the color would show through.

I also attempted a sort of burlap flower thing. I twisted a strip around into some semblance of a flower and hot glued it on.

Then this is where I got REALLY crafty! I decided to print words on the burlap. I've been dying to print on fabric and followed this great tutorial from Domestically Speaking. It took me 3 tries of jamming my printer up with burlap before I realized you MUST trim the paper and burlap so that they are exactly the same with no overhang...at least that's what my printer wanted!

You may notice that the words are a little crooked, but I was just happy that I got the darn thing to print that I didn't even care!

I wanted the burlap to have a little more structure, so I dug around in my recycle bin until I found something suitable to attach it to. Then I hot glued it on.

Finally, I hot glued on some ribbon to dress it up and then some more to attach it to the wreath!

2nd wreath DONE!

Easy...simple...the way I'm really hoping my Thanksgiving day is going to be. This leaves more time to give enjoy my family & give thanks for all the beautiful things in my life!

{DIY} Birthday Gift Bow Wreath

I wandered into the Dollar store recently, looking for a couple pieces of poster board. They didn't have the color I needed, so instead of being a good girl and leaving, I decided to take advantage of my child-free shopping and peek around. The funny thing about the dollar store is that you can always find something you need...whether you need it or not! ;)

I spied these out the corner of my eye (literally), crammed into a low bin.

These happened to have the colors and pattern of my upcoming party...blue & pink & polka dots (they had other fun colors as well)! I knew I had to make something out these pretty bows. Then it hit me...a birthday wreath!

This was such a simple project that I managed to squeeze it in amid all the other party craziness I had going on.

I happened to have a painted grapevine wreath that was in my pile of "unfinished projects". I decided to borrow it for this since the color matched so nicely. If I didn't have this on hand, I would have bought a similar one and spray painted it white.

I used a  little hot glue to attach each of the bows.

I decided to add a few ribbon curls to for a little extra pizzazz!

Then I painted a letter A which is the birthday girl's initial. I had the letter stashed in the closet from an old decoration I had made. Don't you love reusing items like that??

Some matching ribbon I had previously purchased for the party worked nicely to tie the letter.

And my super fun, super easy birthday wreath was complete!

I love this fun wreath so much, that it might have to hang around my daughter's room for a bit after the party!

{DIY} Magnetic Photo Collage

I love photo collages, but in all honesty, I'm too lazy to update them! The thought of taking down the frame, removing the back, removing the pictures, etc etc etc...well it just never gets done. So despite my love of taking pictures, I don't have any collages hanging around.

Recently I made a fabric magnetic board and it was so easy, that as soon as I finished it, I knew I was going to make more. I decided that it would also make a perfect way to display a photo collage. I can change the pictures with little effort which is right up my alley!

To make your own cute magnetic photo collage you will need:

-large magnetic board (I used an old calendar/dry erase board I had)
-fabric (mine used just about 3/4 yard)
-hot glue (but of course)
-ribbon & embellishments of your choosing
-buttons for magnets
-magnet backs
-hook for hanging
-fun pictures to display

I started with a dry erase magnetic calendar I was no longer using.

Then I cut my fabric so that there was enough material around the edges to allow me to glue it down. I would say about 4 inches or so.

I hot glued the fabric around the board.

If your fabric is light colored (like mine), keep in mind that your board may show through. This turned out to be the case with mine, but I didn't realize it until after I had glued it down and didn't feel like redoing it (yes...I like crafting the l-a-z-y way). I figure the pictures will cover it up, but if I were to do it over, I would have simply doubled up the fabric or painted over the darker parts of the board.

Next up...decorating! I used some ribbon and chipboard letters to spell out "sisters" & "family". I glued everything in place (despite the letters claim to be "adhesive").  I had some cute flower buttons and glued those on for additional decoration...I really love buttons! On a side note: can you tell all the following pictures were taken outside??? What a difference...I should just do all my work in the yard!

Of course I needed magnets, so I glued on some magnetic backs to a few of the larger flower buttons.

I hot glued a picture hook onto the back and added a few cute pictures.

It is such a super easy project that can be tailored and personalized with unlimited possibilities! Betcha can't make just one ;)
